Attack on Pearl Harbor: The True Story as Told to the U.S. Congress by Tim Coates, ISBN 0117027448 Summary
Attack on Pearl Harbor 1941: The True Story as Told to the U.S. Congress
Attack on Pearl Harbor: The True Story as Told to the U.S. Congress Full Description
On December 7 1941, Japanese planes attacked the US naval and air bases at Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean. More than 3,000 died in a few hours. At that time the United States of America were not at war with any country, even though World War II had been fought in Europe and Asia for more than two years. Following the Japanese assault, America joined the war on the side of Britain and her allies. Inquiries immediately were made to try to identify how such terrible blow could have been inflicted without any adequate defensive action to prevent its consequences. Several hearings laid the blame on military and intelligence officers. However in 1946, after Atomic Bombs had ended the war with Japan, a Committee of Congress held a further inquiry. The majority of its members re-stated the inadequate state of readiness. However two minority reports placed a different light on the whole event. It appeared that President Roosevelt had known far more than had previously been revealed and indeed was accused of failing to prepare the field command, in order to bring America in to the war. Furthermore these reports criticized President Truman for attempting to prevent the truth from emerging. The minority reports, which are contained in this book, in the context of the whole event, present an astonishing new picture of a truly devastating morning in American History.
