Bupleurum Root Slices 1.17 lb Full Description
This is Starwest's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Traditionally bupleurum is used as a very strong decoction in which the root is boiled for hours. Buplerum is also taken in capsules. Bupleurum use is ancient in Chinese medicine to, as the Chinese say, 'release the exterior and clear heat; pacify the liver so as to relieve stagnation; and elevate yang-qi.' Bupleurum is widely used for women with symptoms of PMS and menstrual imbalances. It is used in formulas to restore normal liver function and relieve painful digestion. A few human trials have shown that the traditional bupleurum-containing formula sho-saiko-to may help reduce symptoms and blood liver enzyme levels in children and adults with chronic active viral hepatitis. Several uncontrolled trials in Japan have shown that sho-saiko-to or very similar traditional Japanese and Chinese bupleurum-containing herbal formulas can reduce seizure frequency or severity in people with epilepsy. Bupleurum contains medically active constituents known as saikosaponins that have been shown to increase production of a chemical group known as cytokines. Cytokines are used by immune cells use to signal one another in the process of inhibiting the growth of liver cancer cells. Saikosaponins are anti-inflammatory. Bupleurum chinense contains a potent new class of antimalarials that is is the focus of intense research by the Japanese pharmaceutical industry.
